About
Background
Phil Bishop is the founder and lead coach at Lions Soccer.
Like many kids from England, from a very young age he played soccer every day, every morning before school, in recess and after school. Often with a tennis ball and trash cans as goals.
From age 7 he was continuously playing on competitive school and club teams. At sixteen he was selected to play on both Slough District and Bucks County teams. At college Phil played for the first eleven team before a serious knee injury sidelined him. However, it was that adversity that led him to coaching, spending the next two years as an assistant coach within the Queen’s University soccer program. Phil continued to coach on a voluntary basis until re-locating to California in the early 2000’s. His two daughters reignited his passion for youth coaching. He has coached soccer continuously for the last eight years, from ages 2-14 and continues to do so with the LAFC Youth recreational leagues.
Philosophy
Whatever level in soccer your child aspires to get to -it won’t happen without loving the game. The absolute and non-negotiable basis for any children’s soccer coaching is Enjoyment. FUN.
-This is Lion’s number one aim- to foster a lifelong love of the game. A love that can result in a long-term enjoyment of casual, recreational soccer, competitive club soccer or even professional affiliated academy level soccer. By instilling a love of the game we’ll help get children to wherever it is they want to go.
– Lions Soccer creates a very fun, happy, energetic environment for even the youngest children to enjoy. Additionally, these weekly sessions will also help to develop gross motor skills, coordination, balance, and fitness. Plus, the players meet new friends, improve social skills and learn notions of teamwork, effort, and fair play.
Teams
Lions Soccer has close connections with AYSO and LAFC Youth soccer programs. Once again, fun is the most important factor – but should your child want to start playing on a recreational, club or even an academy level team, we can help with everything involved.
Often young kids get sent out to play their first game with little or no experience in actually playing the game. If Lions soccer coaches your child and they choose to join a team, whether five years old or twelve years old, they will be fully prepared, know the rules and be confident and ready to play.
